There is, as they say, an app (well, a site really) for that --
W3HFU Westminster MD KiwiSDR (hfunderground.com) (http://sdr.hfunderground.com:8077/?f=7291.000usbz9)
Works with most browsers. Nothing to install, this is an active website.
Pick a frequency and give a listen.
Most all fun stations ae AM, so start there.
Give it a whirl, no cost to you .
In the daytime start on the 19M band - 15 MHz and up
At night, try 31M - 10 MHz and below.
Once you decide this may a hobby worth your time, you can start looking for your own (power and internet independent) gear.
Good luck.
Is there a list of regularly broadcast stations? That might be of particular interest to preppers?
In a shtf event I would like to tune into regular brodcasts from abroad. As well as scan for individuals just talking or giving updates.
Thank you for this.
