So I got this postcard in the mail yesterday and it immediately set off alarm bells in my head for the phoney-sounding name.

I was going to round-file it but decided today (I was bored) to call the number. After a period on hold ("Your call is important to us - so we're not going to answer it right away!") it's answered by a woman with such a heavy Indian accent I could barely understand her, and it seemed obvious she was reading from a script. She immediately wanted my name and address. When I told her I wanted to know what this was about she said, "It is to verify that the information we have about you is accurate.", standard phishing procedure. I mean, seriously, this is straight out of any of the thousands of YouTube scammer payback videos. I told her I've decided not to participate in this and simply hung up.
Now, there is the smallest chance that this is legit and that the American Legion really is running this. If so, good gawd do they need to find a better way.
Maybe call them directly??

Not with that super official looking 'important notice' 'stamp' on it. that screams 'i want to take your info.' Next thing she would have done is said, please give me your email. Then its

Have you guys watched the teams of hackers who track these people down in India. And tske over their call centers? Including cameras? And then they send smoke bombs and boxes if cockroaches and film it? Then they take over their accounts and get oeoples money back. Its all over youtube recently. They get all the scammers info. Then call them up and totally f with them. They diwnload their hard drives. Call them up, start talking to them, and send oictures theyve taken of themselves off their phones.
It's gold. Just search "scam India call center"
I haven't seen the smoke bombs and cockroaches, but have seen them erase their harddrives and use their real names.

It's awesome! They get the scammers starting out with such bravado. (Listening to them cuss in their local accent is hilarious!) And then they piss them off to the point where they are begging for their info back.
Where there isn't a national task force performing this function is beyond me
