I used to travel quite frequently to Mexico to fish. The Sea of Cortes was described by Jacques Cousteau as the worlds biggest fish trap. As the ocean currents push plankton into it. Which attracts slightly larger bait, which attracts fish of all kinds and sizes.
The best fishing of my life was had there. From Loreto to the tip of Baja in San Jose del Cabo. I used to fish with local fishermen out of 22ft pangas. Launched off the beach.
In one day I caught a marlin, giant squid, red snapper, and schooling tuna. Chasing schools if yellowfin tuna was something out of a Hemingway novel.
I always rented a VW bug and traveled the countryside. Even at night. Which is not recommended even in the best of times. Because of cattle in the road.
But the cartel violence got so bad I stopped going.
It's improved slightly over the last year or two. But now this.

More dead on Acapulco beaches.
When they broke up the two main cartels it devolved into numerous younger groups. Intent on upscaling the violence to unimaginable levels.
Not sure when I'll ever get to go back.
Cartel violence is one reason why I don't ever travel to Mexico.
The other reason is I have too many relatives in Mexico and I'd rather not see any of them. Same goes for some of my relatives in Canada.
