Canadian wildfire smoke live updates: Air quality alerts issued for 13 states (msn.com) (https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/canadian-wildfire-smoke-updates-east-coast-skies-engulfed-in-dangerous-haze/ar-AA1cdwLt?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=4a63aa13b59b4b74bfdf0c8d8327646e&ei=18)
QuoteMost of New England and much of the East Coast were under air quality alerts on Wednesday, with smoke from Canadian wildfires expected to reach as far south as South Carolina.

Here in the Detroit area the sun was orange/red this morning through the dust.  It's been a bit hazy for several days here, but nothing like what the east coast is getting.

If you live in impacted areas, now's the time to put all those N95 masks you hoarded during the pandemic to good use.

Yep, works on smoke too (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/07/us/masks-wildfire-smoke-air-quality.html?smid=url-share)

I smoked for almost 45 years.  This ain't nothing compared to 72 sailors crammed into a 10x14 "smoking lounge" for a 15-minute smoke break during boot camp.

It is a bit hazy though...

As someone with asthma living in an affected area, all I can say is:
THIS SUCKS!!!
Seriously Canada, put those damn fires out! I'm running out of inhalers.

The photos of New York City look like stills from Blade Runner 2049 :panic:
I'm sure the air quality must be an unpleasant reminder of 9/11 :(

:gonk: Is it Salbutamol that you're getting low in?

I used to see that color in Western Iraq during a good sand storm. Nasty stuff.

Several state governments are moving towards action, to see if it will move up to disaster status. As noted above, people with asthma are hating life right now. Other conditions, or anyone breathing is not liking it either.

Some expert on the radio this morning was saying that smoke from these wildfires, rather than protection from COVID, is an even more compelling use case for those homemade box fan/furnace filter projects we here at UFOZS were talking about over a year ago.

Here are a few maps for those willing able to get out of the way.

Map shows which US cities, states are being impacted by Canadian wildfires (msn.com) (https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/map-shows-which-us-cities-states-are-being-impacted-by-canadian-wildfires/ar-AA1cd1Qn?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=16c0a0cbd5044747a5ad0434189ac79a&ei=67)

We get this every year in the PNW hardly makes the news. It was so bad 2 years ago we couldn't see 100' in any direction.

Wife and I bought some yugo gas masks that have been amazing. Sad thing now is that with the kiddo he can't really wear anything that protects him, he'll just rip it off.

My doc called in extra prescriptions for me. Albuterol. I'm also now on some pills for my asthma on the worse days. Unfortunately, a lot of the past week have been "worse days".
Happily, the worst of the smoke is supposed to be out of the area by tonight. :awesome:
To all y'all folks south of me...it's on it's way!  :panic:

Sat out on the front porch this morning and chatted with my Doordash delivery person (don't judge, I was hungry and we're out of what I was craving). Not too bad out there.  We had heavy fog this morning I think because everything is wet, or maybe it was a passing shower, but whatever it was it cleared a bit of the haze.

I take Montelukast tablets as well as Symbicort and Salbutamol (Albutarol) I haven't had a bad asthma exacerbation since I started taking Montelukast. I'm glad your Doc is keeping you sorted ✔️

I just saw that Tesla has a "Bioweapons mode filtration system". It is a HEPA filter system.
https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-owners-use-air-filter-bioweapon-defense-mode-wildfire-smoke-2023-6

They are using it in the smokey areas.

https://www.currentautomotive.com/how-does-teslas-bioweapon-defense-mode-work/

A HEPA filter and a closed room may work well to help deal with the smoke.

Trudeau and his primaries give a briefing the status of fires yesterday afternoon. Probably should move this to DICE. I bet the Canadians would agree.
