Title: Bogs Classic High boots initial review
Post by: Optimist on May 20, 2023, 08:03:07 PM
About six months ago I bought some Bogs Classic High rubber winter boots. I've been wearing them several times a week since.

Overall I am not impressed. They seem well built, but they just aren't very warm. It says "-40" on them but that seems super optimistic. Maybe that means that's how cold the rubber will stay flexible even if your feet are frozen lumps?

These didn't have any built-in snow collar or any other way to keep snow out. Something about the way they flex makes them get full of snow super fast. Gaiters are a necessity with these in snow deeper than a foot, and a foot is pushing it.

I think that in a place that was wet, muddy winters without much snow they might be a good option. I think uninsulated rubber boots paired with heavy wool socks might be a more versatile choice.

Maybe a lot of rubber boots don't stay flexible in the cold? The soles on my boots would often freeze hard as boards walking around in Fairbanks, but that was in some pretty extreme cold. That possibility is the only thing that makes me think these would be worth it (I think I paid about $100) but I'm not sure if that's actually a problem with other rubber boots.

Again, even though I'm giving a negative review of these as winter boots they seem to be of quality construction, so I would consider buying other products from this company.

Another winter of these and I haven't liked them any more. The worst winter boots I've ever owned. They're dang cold and have bad traction on ice. Seem well built so I'll be cursed with them forever (or until I sell them).
