I bought a few if these from an army/navy surplus store about 10 years ago I'm Seattle. They were true made in Afghanistan shemaghs. Never really wore them until about 5 years ago when I got into hunting. Now these are my go to! Full head cover, face guard, neck gaiter, it's all of the above. And when it's a slow day and nothing is moving, a perfect pillow

And a towel. And a wind break. And a pot holder. And a.... The list goes on. Lol. I was just amazed at how simply he turned it into a complete head scarf. Thats what I call "expedient"!

I'd like to find a large piece of multicam fabric to use in the same way. I have a few shemaghs. And actually carry one all the time in my fanny pack. It is green. But the pattern does not led itself that well to camoflage. But man talk about a multifunction device!

I use a sarong instead of shemagh. You can use it as a turban with or without face covering, a shoulder throw, skirt, dress, towel or blanket. In winter I wear mine as a scarf, if not in use it lives in my bag.
I've also used it as a privacy shield in hostels. Absolutely love that thing.

A big piece of fleece would be cool for the winter too. Or something waterproof? Interesting.

Don't discount the Shemagh for winter. It's incredibly warm. My goto for those windy days with 20 degree or less temps. Add a pair of sunglasses for the sunny/snow covered ground days or a set of clear/yellow goggles for dark or snowy conditions and your head and neck are nice and toasty warm.
