This customizable map lets you put a nuke of various sizes anyplace near you in the US. And calculates the damage. Very useful tool.
Its set to my area. I'm screwed. No use preparing.

With all the major military and .gov type shit surrounding my location I'm pretty sure I don't need to look at the map to know I'm as screwed as you are.
This is one of those things that makes me kind of glad to live in the middle of nowhere.

Except, you're not. You're close enough to a few .mil locations for fallout to be a consideration, and you can bet that some bad actor looking to ensure the US has a hard time getting back up from the initial strike will lob a few into major resource areas... like the oil patch you're in.

Crap.
Well, looks like I'd either be dead or playing "Fallout: The Home Game" in that case. :gonk:

Ya. I was all gungho researching plastic sheeting and duct tape and nuke pills about three months ago. Now I'm like "why bother?!".
All I can hope for is enough warning to head to my first floor, oartially concrete garage. Or maybe enough time to start driving south. To hopefully move east. To hopefully then head north. Or figure out a way to head offshore.
Cool mapping tool tho. Did you look at the selections? It lists all the known type of nukes since wwii. You can pick which one and it will show you the different damage radius of that nuke on any location. Not sure how wide the map is. But for sure all of US. Its worth a look. I've never seen a mapping tool like it.
If nukes get involved it's largely a case of when are you dying? Now, or in a few weeks.
Statistically most everyone is dead.
That said I'd you can shelter in place like a basement for three months? You might have a chance. Might.

The map is helpful tho. If there is a known target some distance from you. You can at least calculate your vulnerability in the case of various nukes with a known blast radius from that target that may be near you. But not near enough to kill you if you took the right precautions.
In my case I'm f*cked. I live in LA. No matter where it hits here. I'm gone. But if I lived in say central California. I might be able to calculate blast radius' and plan accordingly. Its not all lost if you don't live near a big city.

It does have a use, no doubt. I'm pointing out this isn't like the early 1950s when nukes were so limited in terms of numbers.
Now?
Russia has more than enough to hit everywhere in the US.

I'm 26 miles due south of Quantico. :nuke: :houseboom:
One of the rail lines used by the auto industry in Detroit runs just south of my house and Detroit Diesel is less than a mile away. Because I'm in an inner ring suburb, I'm basically surrounded by various auto industry plants, so if anyone decides to target heavy industry, I'm boned.
There must be a "likely nuke targets in the US" map. But I am sure they are spread across the entire US.
When I was researching this. I didn't bother much with how to survive the initial blast. As I don't imagine you'd have enough warning to get to your basement. If you had one. So your boned during the blast.
But if you did survive. Alot of the advise was surprisingly simple stuff. Like duct tape and plastic sheeting. Keeping the nuclear dust (or whatever) out of your living space. And having enough supplies and sanitation to survive as long as possible. Or until you had a chance to survive outside. Whatever that means? Until authorities come to get you? Or you have a simple radiation sensor to test how safe it might be?
So if you were in a marginal zone. You might survive. Simply with some plastic sheeting, duct tape, supplies, a cheap radiation sensor ($35-$100? I found a review for a good one. And it wasn't that expensive.) and some form of personal protection equipment once you felt it was safe to leave?
Assuming your already supplied as a prepper. Those three things aren't hard to gather. And have available. Plastic sheeting, duct tape and a radiation sensor. Perhaps nbc masks and clothing.
Whatever happened to the millions of pairs of woodland nbc suits the military used for so many decades? And those gas masks? I forget the gas mask model number. But those nbc suits were sold for years to hunters. As the claim was it reduced your scent. And they were orobably the cheapest shirt and pants you could buy. They literally gave them away. They were hot as f* ck. But I wonder why those ran out or they don't sell them anymore.
I might have stated this before, but I live on a 5th floor apartment, partially overlooking one of the most strategically important industrial sites in Western Europe, through my large glass windows.
I'm fucked, but now I know how much exactly. Thank you.

Me and you both. I live next to LAX. And Los Angels Air Force BAse. And the Los Angels Water Treatment Plant. And the Chevron Oil/Gas Plant. We are the regional center for disaster coordination. So we are way over policed. And would become a command center in case of emergency. But if a nuke hit it would probably be right on too of us.
got this off the dark web.
Looks like a bunch of UFoZS training facilities are targeted

I think it's probably safe to say that in case of a nuke being dropped anywhere in the US, that most of us are probably pretty boned. :gonk:
It'd likely be less all of us playing Mad Max:The Home Game and more like Sarah Connor's nightmare scene in Terminator 2. :eek1:
