I have said it constantly...you should assume you are on your own...prepare accordingly.
I present yet one more instance of proof.

QuoteUniversity of Alaska Fairbanks linguist Gary Holton says (https://apnews.com/article/fema-alaskan-native-wrong-translations-707ab611f0d171ae2e34fc3f284454a7) one of the translations is a random assortment of phrases copied from a compilation of far-eastern Russian folklore: "Yupik Eskimo Texts from the 1940s."
Quote"They clearly just grabbed the words from the document and then just put them in some random order and gave something that looked like Yup'ik but made no sense," Holton told AP (https://apnews.com/article/fema-alaskan-native-wrong-translations-707ab611f0d171ae2e34fc3f284454a7). He summed up the work as a "word salad."
Wow. At first I thought the article was saying that it was just a really bad translation attempt. Like an early marketing effort by Pepsi to sell their softdrinks in China. Their English brand catch phrase at the time was "Come alive with Pepsi!" But the translation to Chinese encouraged people to drink their product because "Pepsi brings your ancesters back from the dead!"
But this was just a lazy attempt by a no-doubt-quickly-fired former employee who simply stole random Yup'ik phrases from an old book.
It's like that guy in South Africa who pretended to be a sign language interpreter in front of an international audience and somehow thought no one would notice. :smiley_crocodile:
Fucking infuriating.
The truly sad part is that this tri-fold handout likely had the usual banal advice of flashlights batteries, etc. and urging the reader to be sure to monitor "official sources" for information.
...which is likely to be of the same quality as the handout.
I can find some humor in it

If not for the fact the subject is a serious one and these were likely printed at great exense.

Don't worry it's fine. It's in a official FEMA booklet

That's true.
She's probably the only government worker who can say those words and not strike fear into folks.
