Title: Muscatatuck Urban Training Center in Indiana.
Post by: Raptor on October 20, 2022, 12:39:48 PM
An interesting web site with many photos.

QuoteA 1,000 acre urban training facility located near Butlerville, Indiana. MUTC is used to train civilian first responders, Foreign Service Institute, joint civilian/military response operations, and military urban warfare. It is also home to the National Guard Patriot Academy, a program that gives potential recruits the chance to earn a high school diploma.[2] In addition, it is home to Cybertropolis (a cyberwarfare training environment). The center features more than 120 training structures and over 1 mile of searchable tunnels. A clock tower used as a rappel tower has all four clock faces set to 9:11.

Entrance into Muscatatuck.
Debris has been scattered around to simulate a nuclear detanation a few miles away. It is to give searchers and other participents a realistic scenerio.  Prisoners are used to help with the placement of the debris.

That's pretty cool.

Now I'm wondering if my state has something like that. If so, it'd likely be closer to Austin or the Dallas/Fort Worth area since those have a much larger population than anywhere else in Texas.

Call me silly but, I have to question if a place that can't spell "detonation" is really the place to help you get your GED...  :icon_crazy:

Sadly, that was the first thing that caught my eye as well!

QuoteThe x-ray room was also left intact. US Marines in training happened to discover the x-ray equipment was left in a functionable state and were taking x-rays of themselves. The equipment has since been deactivated.
I think this answers your question.

Kinda what you'd expect from the crayon munchers though...  :rolleyes1:

I'm less shocked that these Marines were x-raying themselves and more surprised they even knew how to operate the machines in the first place.

It was probably more "push random buttons until something happens."

Or this... (https://youtu.be/j1GlFlMfszc)  :eek1:

It's amazing what "dumb" grunts can figure out if they can recognize an immediate real world application for the skill.

Show a pack of guys that barely crawled out of 7th grade math how to calculate the position incoming artillery fire is coming from and two weeks later they'll all be doing advanced trigonometry off the top of their head at record speeds in combat conditions.

"That's cool!" Also hastens it.

Set me loose on xray equipment in my youth, and I'd have figured out how to take x-rays of myself too.

Show me how to drop ordnance from afar on the jerk trying to blow me up, and I'd be laughing like a lunatic as I returned fire.

If the math class I took in high school would've taught math that way, I may have actually paid more attention than I did.
