I have a handy dandy Wouxon KG-935G Plus and it works great.

I just noticed that Wouxon has a new radio, the KG-935H. I don't know much about GMRS radios, other than channels and let go of the button after you finish talking.

Has anyone looked at the 935H and given it any consideration when compared to the 935G Plus? I like the idea of USB-C but not enough of a difference for me to buy a new radio.

Here is a video I have watched for reference.

Apparently - I missed that you need to jailbreak it to run on GMRS. Which is a little beyond my capability at the moment...

So I have learned some things ...

Triband = Ham
Tri-band radios can operate on three radio frequency bands, such as the 2 meter, 1.25 meter, and 70 centimeter bands.

I am using my powerful skills of deduction, but I have not been able to confirm ... the G and H in the radio name most likely = GMRS or HAM.

As Ferris Bueller said, "Life moves pretty fast if you don't slow down you could miss it". I think that's also appropriate with learning about a new radio model.

Chip sets used in modern radios are basically cover all frequencies you could want for receive.  Under the hood they use a I-Q chip set and fancy SW.  (Techno-babble link In-phase and quadrature components - Wikipedia)

Transmit is another problem.  You need an amplifier targeted for the specific frequency AND appropriate harmonic filtering, so you don't interfere with out of band signals.  That uses parts that take up space and cost money.  For many of the modern HH radios you can do this with 2 amplifiers and 2 harmonic filters.  Thay's why my Alinko 2M//70cM HH can receive all kinds of frequencies but only transmit in the Ham bands.  The big physical difference between Ham ang GMRS is the frequency (HW that's close enough for most power amps) and that most GMRS frequencies are 12.5 kHz bandwidth signals (SW).  Licensing is another story entirely.

Thanks, Z.O.R.G.

I have a GMRS license and GMRS radios, I would really like to learn more about radios and eventually get a Ham license, but it's one of those things that is number 27 on my list of things to do, so I never get to it!
