Mid 70s now and then into the 50s overnight.

We opened all the windows yesterday after dinner to listen to a pretty good thunderstorm. Very pleasantly cool as I heaved my guts out at 1 AM!

I'm trying to, Wee Drop. I'm hoping we'll get some rain and it'll cool things down soon.

So i had hoped we would gracefully slide into cooler fall weather. And it was nice since I last posted. But the forecast is for 112 F today. And doesn't have a daytime temp below 105 till next weekend.  :smiley_devil:
ETA It's hit 113. My home weather station is showing 114-115. ( it's in full sunlight). One of the outside cats had a kitten five days ago. They are on the front porch and I put up a tarp to shield them from the afternoon sun

The temperature here has been in the high 90's all month. That is unpleasant. However what has been bad is the lack of rain. We have not had the usual pm thunderstorms. As a result there is a lot of heat stressed foliage.

It has been hard on the animals as well. I went into a local feed store yesterday and there was a 2 day old calf inside the store. It was lying in the flor panting from the heat. The store owner brought it inside to cool it off in an attempt to save it.

My pond is down a good 2 feet. The turtles are not as active during the day. Almost all of the critters are laying low in the daytime and moving only at night.

There is also a burn ban statewide. We have had several fires. A dry hot pine forest will catch fire if you look at wrong much less set a fire.

This too though shall pass. The saving grace of this is that the high pressure area causing this is blocking the low pressure depressions in the GOM. This makes hurricanes 🌀 difficult  to organize.

Very hot here today in the Detroit area.  It topped out in the lower 90s, but it was also very humid and the heat index topped out around 106F.

We had some big storms that went through Thursday night / Friday morning.  And we just had another really powerful storm system blow through this evening, including a number of tornadoes.  I had 60-70mph wind at my house, along with torrential rain, and non-stop lightning / thunder.  Since there were tornadoes in the area, I went down in the basement and read for a while.

A friend called and we chatted for a while.  He found a YouTube channel called Max Velocity - Severe Weather Center who has been doing live analysis of the storm system as it went through Michigan into Canada and now into Pennsylvania / New York.  I subscribed to his channel, since I could definitely see this being useful in the future.  I'm not sure where all he covers when there are storms, but it might be worth taking a look at.

That same storm came thru my area overnight, power went out for about 2 minutes.  Could hear the wind, not as much rain as other places.  Woke up this morning to a 4" diameter branch across my driveway.  Thought about just driving over it, but water meter is being changed today and figured the technician wouldn't want to deal with it.  Supposed to go up to 85°F today.

Been in the high 90's in Denver for several days   Last night Texas sent the tropical storm out way cooled it off into the 70's.  Expected 1-1.5" of rain which we need but not all at once.

This is the first time I can remember being thankful for any thing that came from Texas.

In North Texas, it's 110 in the country.

The DFW cities appear to be even hotter.

Friday
A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 60. Breezy, with a northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

It's so nice to do the yardwork and other tasks in 85F and 50% Humidity. Hardly break a sweat.
Pool is down to 78F.

Haven't had much rain in the last three weeks. So had to turn my sprinklers back on this weekend.
