https://www.foxla.com/news/teens-riding-e-bikes-accused-terrorizing-south-bay-residents

You don't have to read the article. Although it does include statements from LE.

E-bikes are a plague here now. The most popular ones are as fast as a motorcycle, silent and not only don't have lights, but not even a reflector. Somehow these are classed as bicycles.

They cost a lot too.

At first everyone was concerned for teen safety. As local kids drive these at night. Doing wheelies. Driving into incoming traffic. Often don't wear a helmet. And if they do it's a cheap bicycle helmet. Woefully inadequate.

But now groups of kids from other areas are driving to beach cities and terrorizing teens and adults now. Knocking over, terrorizing and beating up kids and adults alike. One woman in the video is 75 yrs old. And was assaulted in the parking lot of Trader Joes. Another kid is seen getting knocked down and beaten by a group of teens.

They are extremely fast. And blacked out. So by time cops show up everyone is long gone.

I will say they are the perfect bug out vehicle. Although you can't carry much. I have almost run over several kids completely ignoring traffic laws. And I know I sound like the grouchy old man yelling for the kids to get off my lawn. Lol. But now they are using them to basically assault random strangers. And get away.

At first my concern was what parent buys there kid a $3000+ silent motorcycle (basically) that no one can see in traffic. Half without helmets. And even if they do wear a helmet it's not a motorcycle helmet. And who makes these without lights or reflectors of any kind?!

But now they are being used to basically terrorize a community. So glad I'm moving. It just can't be fast enough.

What happens when an old fart jams his/her cane into the spokes?

Another version of skateboard poser punks, a plague around here.  No attacks to date as AK is a Constitutional Concealed Carry state.

The biggest risk here is the drunks/dopers living in the bushes next to most major trails....
I'd much rather be a disappointed pessimist than a horrified optimist....

Like that young kid? Or the middle aged man that was falsely arrested for fighting back? The guy with the cane would get jumped by the entire group. And have his ass beat. The cops would show up after everyone was gone. And nothing would happen. These criminals know this. It's why their doing it in the first place. They know they won't get caught. So it's free rein.

This is California. Where no one raises their children. They just let them run wild. While waiting for their bed in prison to clear. And eventually they grow up into full blown criminals.

People here think that if you were raised disadvantaged. You then deserve to riot, destroy things, being as violent as you want, be released early from jail or prison, shoplift at will and generally do whatever you want. Because it's societies fault that you didn't get the care to raise you right. They basically justify any ill action you perpetrate on society. Because you were demographically disadvantaged. There is no accountability on an individual level.

If you saw the local headlines everyday. You would be terrified. They don't make the national news. Every single day the headlines go into detail about the top, most recent killings. Not all of them. Just the ones that are newsworthy. They have a large group to choose from. The home invasions, the robberies, the rapes - everything barely makes a blip.

Recruiting for cops is for six figure positions. But they can't fill enough posts. Even in coushy beach communities. So there isn't nearly enough cops. My town used to be overly policed. Now you rarely see one. 3 home invasions within 6 blocks of my house in recent weeks. But you can't blame anyone for not wanted to have a career in law enforcement here. No one supports them. Neither the people nor the governments they work for. And you'd have to live here. Who would want to raise their family even within driving distance of this?

People here are so naive. And it's not getting better. It's getting worse.

It is simple. If there are no consequences for actions then why not engage in those actions.

In NOLA people ( I hesitate to call them kids) ride ATVs on main streets and even Interstate 10 at some points. Clearly the ATVs cannot keep up with 60 mph traffic but they do it anyway.

There are no consequences so there is no reason to not do it.

The NOPD cannot catch them and they know it. I am sure the e-bike issue is the same.

If you confront them the group will attack. So plan ahead pick yours spot and remember the no consequences can apply both ways. That said as evidenced by the fact the attacked got arrested, if there are consequences they will fall on you.

Plan accordingly.

Every time I read a post like this I am more and more certain I made the right decision to move to my remote locale.
That behavior would, in all probability, get someone shot up here. With damn few repercussions. At the very least the idiots on the ebikes would be treated to a friendly *counseling* from several locals.

It's just another reason I am moving to remote MT myself.

Sounds like my AO.

Remember the "Killer Clown" trend from a few years back ?

Some local idiot tried pranking folks in my town doing that and ended up getting severely beaten by someone he tried to prank at a local park.

I think the pranker ended up with a couple broken ribs, a concussion and some other injuries.

Yeah, not so much. You are making an odd assumption that the bikes were purchased.

Also EBikes are not so much anymore.

Note that Federal Law limits their top speed to 28MPH. If they are going faster they have modified the bike in some way.

These are a very specific model electric bike. They look more like motorcycles. There is one brand here. That is extremely popular with kids. I think they are very fast. All black. With no lights or reflectors. Which makes it worse. Literally every kid that has one has this one specific model.

The better off kids around here have gotten them from their parents. A lot are not up to no good. Just foolish and not safe. Cheap bicycle helmets, no lights and distracted. Or ignoring traffic laws. Or performing stunts in traffic to show off. It's like the new skateboarding. Except it's in the middle of traffic. Traveling at way to high a speed. I saw one girl literally on her phone. While traveling at least 20mph with one hand.

But these kids out looking to fight people. Are a different group. Probably stolen electric bikes. Same or similar models.

It's not that this a major violence crisis or anything. Just an example of how little respect for the law there is here. I mean people are shot and killed here everyday. But now the young kids don't even have any respect for the law. Let alone simple sociatel rules. Respect for the elderly. Who the hell thinks it's ok or funny to f with old people? How bad was your parenting that you think that's ok? Or fun?

There isn't even the most veiled attempt to give these kids any examples of a good world. It's just violence and mayhem. And they've known nothing else for generations. Their parents are more than likely little more than kids themselves.

This is also a dumping ground for people from all over the world. That come from desparate countries. Where the rule of law and basic human decency mean little. Violence seems to be the rule of the day. And human life seems to mean nothing. These kids are just a tiny window into what is going on here. And why people are moving away. It is actually much much worse in an adult level. If you can call them that.

Probably these then https://surron-ebikes.com/
e-bikes themselves are a big controversy everywhere. From paved multipurpose trails that are designed for walking/jogging/bicycling to mountain bike trails designed for human powered bikes. The entitled/electric bikes believe that adding a battery and motor to a human powered bike still falls under human powered even though they can run 2x as fast as the human powered bikes on the trails. They don't share the road very well.

It's not those e-bikes. But I know those. Nice bikes for a Bugout. :)

I'll find the model later. The style is like a 60s Honda almost. Flat long seat.

I wouldn't say nice for a bugout, they usually don't have very much range and then when the battery goes dead they are heavy.

Ya. Not a daily driver. Just something to get you out of Dodge quickly and silently. I think the ones that are more bike than ebike are best for that.

They will get you out of a very localized issue but not enough range for a bugout. And once you have gotten out of that local area your still faced with a bike with a dead battery.

Apparently July 1st there's an ammo excise tax going into effect for Kalifornia?!? @Moab you better stock up now.

https://digitaldemocracy.calmatters.org/bills/ca_202320240ab28

QuoteThis bill, the Gun Violence Prevention and School Safety Act, would, commencing July 1, 2024, impose an excise tax in the amount of 11% of the gross receipts from the retail sale in this state of a firearm, firearm precursor part, and ammunition, as specified.

I'm aware. I'm going to buy some. But prices are higher at gun stores. You can only buy there. And if you don't have that caliber firearm registered. You won't pass the background. Yes. You have to go thru a background check just to buy ammo.

I have several firearms that I brought here before they started their computerized system. Any arm that gets transferred since then is subject to being registered.

There is no gun registry in law. But this is how they get around that. By not allowing you to buy ammo for that firearm. If you don't have a gun in that caliber registered.
