Just a cool concept run by the crew over at S2 Underground. The idea behind it is for individuals to help aggregate information to form a bigger picture versus just relying on local or national sources. I have checked it out via internet based SDR websites and running JS8Call on the laptop with good results. My goal for this summer is to start removing the internet source and utilize my FT-818 for listening and contributing to the net.

I've been reading and watching a lot about SDR. And ATAC. I would like to use a leftover smart phone. But also got a new laptop. Not sure if the laptop would make it into a go bag tho. And not sure which SDRs will run on a cellphone.

Any advice or websites you'd recommend with that in mind? I see a lot of the same SDR units that are recommended in the US on AliExpress. But have not pulled the teigger on any of this yet. It will be a time consuming venture for sure. And not sure how far up on the agenda thus is yet.

I'm trying to figure out how to get SDR to work with my Linux laptop and hopefully my Le Potato single board computer...

I took a look at the acrobat (PDF) file and it has some good info in it for those that don't have a background in military style communications.  Anyone should be able to listen, but to participate you're going to need a ham license.  Getting FT8 and JS8Call up and running is not a quick and easy task for someone new to radios.  If you are, I'd suggest finding a mentor (Elmer) in your area to help get your set-up running.  

GPS is mentioned several times as being critical - it is, and this is a big caution.  If you can't get (and keep) GPS time sync, you'll eventually lose your ability to both transmit & receive.  If GPS sats are jammed or disabled you've days (or weeks at most) before the system falls apart.

I think S2 does go over how to sync without an internet connection but I would imagine overtime even those options will eventually fail
