It only comes in one color. But this guys batch of different colored web gear comes out pretty nice. I think if you did a second dye job with a bit of brown or a short soak it might be perfect.

Anyone ever attempt to use Rit Dark Brown on UCP and it turned out purple?

Go to YT. You'll see every ridiculous color you can imagine. I've been researching and posting about this for years. Very few guys get this right. Search this forum. I have made long posts about it.

Buy several cheap pouches and test the dye. Before you commit larger stuff to a particular dye. A ranger green shade is the best I have seen. Special soaks and salt and other stuff does not seem to matter. It's in the dye and hot hot water. Use a big metal pot. And a propane burner outside. Or a big pot in your stove. I've posted other videos of guys that have made great colors dying ACU. And that is the cheapest gear you can find.

But the majority of videos have a not so great outcome IMHO. Alot of bright green using apple green dye. Just doesn't look good or like it would work as camo. My best advice is use this green and some brown. Either together. Or one after the other. But perfect your process with cheap pouches. RIT will dye the plastic buckles too. Which is good. It is very possible to use ACU gear and dye it to a good color. The original pattern will vary it enough that it comes out as a nice camo.

Roger that, Moab. Thankfully "small gear" was all I ended up ruining like that, a couple grenade pouches, helmet cover, and those nomex gloves.

From what I've seen, most of the YT videos were of people attempting to do a grass green or black dye job. But in my AO, green is much less common than brown/tan. And I've always hated the addition of black to camouflage, beyond as counter-shading.

I think that video details a new RIT dye color iirc  OD Green maybe? A lot of the videos on YT detail a mix of different colors. Because there isn't just one that turns out well. But this guys use of OD Green gets you pretty close.

There is another video I posted of a guy that uses two colors from a different brand. To achieve a very close ranger green. Which is a mix of shades of ranger green when applied to the different light and dark areas of ACU. And it looks better than any other dye job I've seen. I think you could achieve a similar color with RIT in green and brown. Especially this is green. Many of rita greens are to bright.

But really it just needs to be a good green/brown earth tone. Suited to your AO. Beyond that alot can be done with paint and rough sponges. Large pore natural sponges if that makes sense. Start with whatever green/brown you achieve. And touch it up with complimentary paint colors applied with the large pore sponge. This is ghillie suit technique. And very effective on rifles. That in the end would get you a better camo than standard off the shelf camo clothing and gear.

Even if you started with a Multicam. Which I view as the most versatile camo out there. Colorwise and the fact that you can find every piece of gear in that pattern. Which is important. You don't want to mix patterns. If you broke that up with paint/sponge. You'd have a better camo than just Multicam. Better actually with any camo pattern - adding paint and texture to it. Think spray adhesive and burlap or even dried vegetation.

Keep in mind colors on video, depending on the light and camera, can be very misleading. It's helpful to watch videos. But it is not necessarily the same color in real life.

Absolutely right with the sponge technique. Been working on this for a minute(old ZS forum alumni, among other things)

Awesome.

I just about have both the lower and upper for my BCM AR. I'm going to rattle can and sponge paint it.
