Posting less for the content and more for the simple fact that disaster preparation is becoming increasingly mainstream.

I do generally agree with the thrust of CNN's BOB comparisons as far as Uncharted and Judy being among the better choices for a serious, functional emergency bag.  But a number of brands were left out completely and man, those they do recommend are pricey.  Purusing the UFOZS forums and asking questions here can equip you to make informed gear choices for a DIY kit as good or better than CNN's top picks. And save you money in the process.

New forum members have even been known to receive from the UFOZS community whole emergency kits as a contest prizes - part of our mission to make prepping accessible to the public through education and informed discussions.

If you are interested in going the pre-made route, also consider the Surviveware 72-hour 2-person Emergency Backpack. It looks like Surviveware has gone out of business, but existing new stock can still be found on Ebay and Amazon for $110 - $130, although probably without the advertised food rations and water filter. Still, an often overlooked bargain considering it includes decent quality gear for not one, but two people.  Look elsewhere in this subforum for a detailed review. It explains the missing items situation and provides guidance on not only replacing the missing items, but improving the kit's overall capabilities.
A post-apocalyptic tale of love, loss and redemption. And zombies!
