Allows drawing a circle on GM for planning.

I found the exercise to be instructive.  Assuming a 300 mile radius for the circle, there are very few places in the US that are more 'than a tank of gas away' from any given major urban area.

300 miles is used as a 'tank of gas' for most current generation autos.  Oddly, YMMV applies directly in this case.   :smiley_knipoog

Crosscut

#1
One very disturbing US city at 260'ish miles distant (as the crow flies).  Other than that, mostly water and a whole bunch of those loonie Ontario Canucks.

Just kidding, and no offense to any Canadian's here, if the SHTF at the Ontario / US border I'd expect it'd look something like this.

That is great tool. But remember that is as the crow (or Cessna) flies. It is possible to use a tank gas going 60 miles or less if traffic is heavy. That happened in Houston as well as NOLA during a hurricane evacuation.

I agree use the tool for knowledge but also if you are using it to do some bug out keep in mind you may need more than 1 tank of gas.
I will never claim to have all the answers. Depending upon the subject; I am also aware that I may not have all the questions much less the answers.

As a result I am always willing to listen to others and work with them to arrive at the right answers to the applicable questions.

I used 300 Miles as that seems to be the 'magic' distance I see all of the time on the web.

Frankly, outside of bits of Nevada, you will find nothing that is not within the 300 miles circle of one or more ;major urban areas.    East of the MIss river, refuges, (defined as outside of the deadly circle) just don't exist.

It makes for an interesting thought exercise if nothing else.  I used this for writing the World of the Chernyi series.

I actually laugh when I read how some folks plan on heading to the woods and hunting to feed themselves.  You and several million others have the same 'plan;.

Cascade Failure

In my 300mi circle I have Boston, Providence, Hartford, Augusta, NYC, Albany, Trenton, Philly, Montreal, Ottawa etc...I'm good. Right?
