Oh. That puts an entirely different face on this Event and the recommending a wisdom in shopping now because the stores might run low/out of stuff in the light of these numbers of people coming to his area.

Among other recommendations, restaurants/food counters have been advised to have "grab and go" type meals ready and to offer a limited menu for the day before, day of and day after.
Our BIGGEST week at work (sales and foot traffic) is usually the 4th of July week. We have around 7000 customers for that WEEK. We have been advised that the store will possibly get that many each DAY for the 7th, 8th & 9th.
So, yeah, little towns in the path are a bit freaked out right now.

Anyplace in the direct path will be a huge mess.

In my wife's tiny (<3K)hometown in rural Utah, just the partial eclipse brought a mass of idiots.

This is a real event and could turn into quite the mess.
