There is a lot going on in the South China Sea (Some randomly selected alarmist news articles):

--Japan aggressively supporting Taiwan:

What are your thoughts? Anyone adjusting preps in light of these events?

I'm not adjusting anything atm, but I'm definitely interested in the developments of this.  A lot of ships pass thru that area.

You mean besides ordering that ebike from China now, at the end of the riding season rather than waiting until the spring?  Not much of anything.  Tensions have been running high in that region for quite some time and will continue to do so.  Not saying that something couldn't blow up at any time.  But that's going to be a possibility for a long time coming.  Steady as she goes, but monitoring the situation.

I put a little money in a South Korean Index fund to help signal to me if something really scary happens. I figure its value will plummet. Their stocks tend to be much more volatile than the US.

When the scary thing happens and stocks plummet, I'll invest very heavily. I think the scary thing will pass and I'll make a lot of money.

If I'm wrong and scary thing keeps escalating, I probably don't care about stocks or money anymore. I'm probably expanding my garden and pissed I didn't stock more canning lids. I'm not certain where canning lids are made, but China and/or India probably make up an important part of the supply chain.

All this reminds me of the book "Alas, Babylon" where a nuclear war started because someone accidentally launched a missile during some high-tension posturing. There's always something ready to blow. The question is when will it finally go off.

Actually , in Alas Babylon . The pilot fired a missile at a soviet plane, missed and took out a ammo/fuel base.  :smiley_coffee: I just recently read the story  :smiley_bignews:

Turns out, that has actually happened. And the world almost went to war again. I'm friends with a guy who kicked off the the response to a computer system message which was sent in error. No actual missile was fired from the other side. And things were cooled down quick enough to not actually launch nukes. But it was very close.

He legit kicked off WW3 in response to a message the system sent. Then found out it was an error and had to pull things back.

I think there's been hijinks going on in the South China Sea for as long as I've been alive and I'm 36 years old.

Heck, there's probably been hijinks going on for a lot longer than that now that I think about it.
