Back before this site existed, in the long ago days of ZS, my birthday was coming up and SMoAF, our
then resident Virginia Magistrate and Class III firearms dealer (SMoAF passed away the following year) found out that I didn't own an AR, and that the only time I'd ever even handled an AR platform weapon was back in the 70s when I was a US Navy Gunner's Mate.  That was when he hatched his evil plot and offered to buy lunch for me and my wife on my birthday.

At lunch that day David said that he'd also brought me a gift, an AR of my very own... and then proceeded to hand me a Double Star stripped lower.  My wife had a puzzled look on her face as David and I both cracked up, and I had to explain to my wife that she had no idea of the evil that man had just inflicted on our household budget.

The AR that resulted from the build of that lower proudly hangs on the wall of my office, ready to defend my home.

I decided to make this a UFoZS tradition when @12_Gauge_Chimp said he wanted to build an AR for his nephew's 21st birthday, his first AR.  I hustled my fat little fingers over to Double Star USA as soon as I could afford it and a brand new stripped lower will be headed to Texas next week.

I'd like this tradition to continue, in memory of David (SMoAF), with one of us stepping up and gifting a Double Star lower to any regular member who is looking to build their first AR.  The lowers are good quality, forged 7075 T6 aluminum, and well worth the price.
