Sold my Arcteryx Khyber 80L mainpack. And bought an EXO Mountain Gear K3 6800. Did not plan to get their largest pack. But they are phasing out multicam. Amd I don't intend to use all of its massive capacity. But its nice to have it there for larger, temporary loads. Their new packs are the K4 series.

The K3 is notable for a number of reasons. It has a solid frame who's main purpose is to carry meat. The main pack unbuckles from the frame. Allowing you to strap down a ton of meat between the frame and main pack. You can see this in the pics below.

Unlike the Arcteryx pack I had, this pack comes in 6 customizable sizes. Which will give my large frame a much better ride. And hiking experience. The Arctyx was a one size fits all medium. That I was barely able to adjust to a size that simply worked ok. This pack will actually come fitted for a range very much in my wheel house.

It has an external rifle carrying system. As you can also see in the pics. And the rigid molle webbed hipbuilt will hold a pistol and holster.

It has large flexible pockets on the sides for a variety of different sized water containers. Including a full size Nalgene.

The main compartment has vertical zippers. For easy access to any point within the pack.

It's just a great hunting and INCH or bug out pack. For bad weather situations where you need more room for shelter, sleep system and more clothing. And the full frame capacity for carrying large loads of meat.

I bought my Arcteryx from Canada for $200. And it sold in two days on Ebay for $799. So the price increase allowed me a complete exchange for a pack that is lightyears ahead of the Acteryx.

It comes on Wednesday.

Nearly did a spit take with my morning coffee when I saw the 2 lb 5 oz pack weight listed on the spec sheet.  :eek1:

Then I read it more closely and saw that's for the bag only, sans frame and lid. For a sec there I thought the framepack construction state-of-the-art had progressed so far from when I sold these things for a living as to be practically unrecognizable.

That's a helluva sweet pack, Moab.   :awesome:

Ya. Even at 5lbs 12ozs its a nice pack. Its 1112L with the lid. Which is ridiculous. My Arcteryx Khyber 80L was 5lbs. The next packs down in these are permenantly sold out of multicam. Or I would have honestly gone with one a bit smaller. But they've phased multicam out in their new design. And as you know I'm a huge believer in camo. And that is my color of choice.

I barely used the full capacity of the 80L. But I'm disciplined enough to not overload it. Just because I have the space. But I've always thought ahead to hunting game and hauling it. And also just hauling whatever. Including concealing long arms. Which this pack will do on an even greater level.

The unique ability of this pack to carry large loads on its metal frame under the main pack is a huge plus. As is the rifle carrier, nalgene water pouch, and ability to mount a pistol to the belt. Those are three things I'm constantly trying to make up for in modern packs for a bug out.

Few packs offer a rifle carrier. (Condor has one. Called the Pretorian. Buts basically like an alice and not fitted.) So your limited to hanging it horizontally on top. Which makes travel difficult in the brush.

You're also always trying to figure where to out your water bottle. I hate things hanging off my packs. And the outside pockets on every pack I've owned have either been unreachable while the pack is on. Or to tight to get a normal size water bottle into. Or even out easily. This oack has large accessible side pickets for this. Made out of super stretchy fabric. So its easy to oull your water bottle out and out it back in. Without removing your pack.

Then there is the issue of a sidearm. Solved with a chest pack. But not the quickest draw. And no other pack that I've used has a hipbelt sturdy enough or with the appropriate molle webbing to do so.

Lastly, the fact that I will finally have a pack that really fits me. Is a godsend. Ever since the Forest Service packs of my youth. Or the Alice in the military. Or even my modern packs. None have really been the right size. For exceptional carry. I look forward to a pack that actually rides deep into my hips and high enough up to not compromise one end or the other. The Alice used to do a number on my back. As with it up correctly on my shoulders. The waistbelt was someplace far above my actual waist. Let alone my hips. Which should be carrying the bulk of the load. I remember carrying a wood Forest Service pack board full of deer meat as a teenager. What a torture that was! Canvas shoulder straps and bag. And a sort if heavy wood composite frame.

It's more than I ever would have considered spending on a pack. But with the high price set on my Arcteryx. I saw no reason not to do basically an exchange. They don't make them anymore. And are one of the few full sized, lighter weight packs in multicam. Plus they were issued to SF. So there is a premium placed on them.

It gets here tomorrow. I'll try to post some pics.
