Bill introduced to promote emergency amateur radio preparedness

Note: this is pending bipartisan legislation. I'm posting this strictly to inform UFOZS members about an effort to make it easier for ham radio operators to erect antennas on their property. Please restrict your comments to the practical aspects of such a law as it relates to volunteer disaster communications and/or enjoyment of amateur radio as a hobby.

U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) have introduced legislation to give amateur radio operators the right to install their antennas and serve the community. Homeowner association rules prevent amateur radio operators from installing outdoor antennas on residential properties even though this communication method has proven to be essential in emergencies and natural disasters, such as hurricanes in states like Mississippi and Connecticut.

I hope this bill moves forward.
