Any news about how long covid may or may not affect the gut biome?
One of my sons has LC, and he has had issues with his gut.
His doctor already feels and is doing more testing for POTS. However, my son has also had severe abdominal pain, particularly after meals (1/2 hour to 2 hours afterwards).
Last year he also had a few medical issues that required the use of antibiotics. So, thats also a possibility.

Any ideas on getting his gut biome back to functioning well?
My deep dive (lol) into gut biome issues is pointing me towards a few options.
Right now, I am thinking of sending him a care package.
If I am able to swing it, I am thinking"
Smoothie maker
Moringa Powder
Bovine Colostrum Powder
Probiotic powder

I figure he can toss some frozen berries, some milk and the moringa, colostrum and probiotic in.
One or two of those a day for a few weeks/months and it might help, I think?
I know his doctor might opt for fecal transplant if my sons gut biome is really dead/ish,  My son lives in Austin and the hospitals there are sometimes doing that, especially in extreme cases, where his seems to be heading.

I'm afraid to ask what a fecal transplant is.

EXACTLY what you think it is, although methods vary.
First, they find an individual with a very healthy guy biome. There is extensive testing.
A small amount of fecal matter (shit) is taken from the individual with the healthy gut biome and transferred to an individual with the bad gut biome.
Methods usually vary between Wet and Dry transfer and rectal and oral.
Dry method: fecal matter is dried out and put in a capsule that won't dissolve until it hits the intestines. OR the dried fecal matter is put in a suppository and inserted WAY in rectally.
Wet method:  Fresh crap from good gut biome put into suppository and inserted WAY up in rectum of individual with bad gut biome OR, again, loaded into a capsule and swallowed by the individual with the bad gut biome. Sort of "eat shit and perhaps not die".
There you go...more than you needed to know about fecal transplants!

I may have some ideas. It may take a couple of hours... or a day(s?) to get back to ya... depending on success in avoiding activating my sympathetic nervous system cause happy excited OR sad trips it. Which so sucks  :smiley_devil:

Addendum to post:

Am Happy/excited tripped now but should've said "possible non-surgical intervention"

I had this! Maybe not to the extent of your son, but I had this!

You may be on the right track!

I was told:
Morning & night

Mix:
1 heaping TBLSP 'non-flavored' active culture yogurt
1 good drop raw unfiltered honey
1/4th medium size banana (squashed w a fork)
And take:
1 probiotic pill (mine is acidophilus 100 million organisms Nature's Bounty purchased at Kroger-Dillons)

It took 'me', again not knowing you son's severity, about two weeks to Begin noticing a slight difference. In a month my stomach/gut began allowing me to actually eat food at a tblsp a time three times a day. By the second month I could eat a cup of food three times a day.

Now, after three months, I am eating a reasonably size meal three times a day.

Plus... I had been lactose intolerant for over a year. Now I am not! (So far)
I drink milk (moderately 2%)
I eat cottage cheese (moderately)
I eat active culture yogurt at my pleasure

Haven't tried cheese yet, don't have the confidence to push it yet.

But, @Lambykins, you might well be onto something.

I was specifically told to use the above combination because the banana and raw unfiltered honey fed  perfectly the active cultures in yogurt & probiodic, multiplying them which then would begin populating the gut and pushing out the bad gut stuff somethingoranother.

Do remember, this is 'my' experience and not medical advice .

Oh. I don't think I even implied much less mentioned that my own experience with this gut/boime began with the first symptoms that began my Long-COVID, 375 days ago as of today. That stomach/gut pain was with me 24 hours every day. Wake in the night to do the needful? It's there. Drifting into sleep? It's there. Months & months & months of this.

I just checked my diaries and found the notations referenceing the yogurt/honey/banana stuff:
-Oct 18, 2023... I get the recipe
-Oct 30, a notation "am I noticing a slight lessening of this stomach pain?"
-Nov 14, "I'm eating food today!! A tbsp three times!!
-But on the 16th the note is in caps: " I'M EATING AGAIN!!! FIRST TIME SINCE JANUARY 12th!!! (1/2 C at a time)

December 6, 2023 is my last reference to all this. In large sprawling words "Today I had a bowl of Food, not soup, Food!!! A BOWL!!!
