I'm interested to hear what apps you use for android file management? And any folder filing strategies you might use?

Android file management isn't as easy as say windows file management. I've used the stock "My Files" on my samsungs for years. But it seems lacking in labeling, moving and creating a simple file structure. Without using it connected to a pc.

I'm not saying its impossible. Just clunky at best. It sucks trying to remember what steps it takes to move something when your in this or that app.

I've taken to running two file management apps. The stock one and something just called Files. I researched almost all of them and tried several different file management apps. But like alot of apps and software. None are simple or straight forward. I also orefer free and/or open source stuff.

I've created folders for things like important docs, important pics, my survival docs were already organized. But each place in the apps for things like moving files or finding them once you've created folders is complicated with multiple steps. And different ways depending on where you've opened a file or image.

When hooked up to my pc. Its very much easier. And of course you have drag and drop. I could set up my phone to automatically connect to my pc via wifi. As that functionality is built right into win11.

But I don't know if I totally trust that. Not that my phone itself is totally safe. But I try to keep a modicum if distance and settings away from prying eyes and big tech as I can. Paranoid and ultimately useless? Probably.

But I also hate having to move to my pc whenever I want to file something or look something up. With a bit greater ease than the stumbling in the dark that is android file management. It also seems that every app has a very different file saving placement within the phone as well. Which makes it hard to find things without doing an internet search everytime your trying to find some file on your phone.

I've got Ghost Commander on my phone and absolutely adore it. It gives you two tabs that you can navigate in independently and copy from one to the other.
My files system on my SD card mimics the typical windows file structure, meaning I sort into documents, pictures and so on. All my files are stored on the SD so I can transfer it easily.

I don't recall if I checked that one out. But I will for sure. I also keep all my files on the sd card.

I move phone files either to both my PC and an external hard drive or to just the external hard drive via my PC (plug both the phone and the drive to the PC for easy file transfer).  I don't tend to keep a lot of files like documents on my phone itself and I'm a bit old school, so I still do manual backups instead of relying wholly on the automatic backup-to-cloud features.  Also, my vision isn't great and it's a lot easier for me to use the PC to manage files so I can actually see them.

I do the same whenever I hook my phone up to my pc. But I'm on my phone about 80% of the time. So managing what I download, screen shot, photograph etc. Is usually on my phone. These apps on android just suck as far as file management goes.

You might need to use F-Droid to install, I can't remember if the google store had it.

I use foldersync. I paid for the pro version so I don't know if the free version can do this or not, but you can have it move and or copy between directories. For example my phone I set the pictures to default to the SD card but bursts it requires to the internal storage. So I setup a sync in foldersync to move any files from the internal to SD card each night.
Then I have setup a Nextcloud server at home and have folderpairs setup to sync everything there.
