Say we're in the urban setting when the negative Event begins. So you're bugging in because no vehicle, it's dangerous, something. Makes restocking hard, dangerous, something.

In a large apartment building, apartment fairly well stocked... we're not yet seeing even an estimate end date for this negative Event. Or relief. Power spotty. It's you, those canned, packaged, and dry food that can get by with hot/warm/room temp water. Spices.

Rationing is the step you decide on until whatever comes next. One cup of something to make smaller but more frequent meals.

What's in your cup?

I've made three of these cup meals in the last couple of weeks.

The first one was half fill the cup water then heat. Then added whatever seasonings to hydrate, added the very last of whatever refrigerator leftovers that would fit in the cup. Didn't matter what food it was.

Turned out to be really tasty, warm, and satisfying

A cup of refrigerator soup. 😏

But it was tonight after the news I thought this kind of practice could come in handy. A cup of meal.

Tonight began as leftover oatmeal. Then added water, some leftover canned spinach, some canned beans and rice, caynne and other spices. Eaten with some cashews.

Surprisingly comforting and satisfying.

Huh.

Basic assumptions here cold weather, electric stove, limited space and resources.
OK if power is spotty, you should put a full pot/kettle of water on the electric stove with it turned on so that when the power comes on ( sporadically)you can get some water heated.  ( A good UFOZS'er will have at least a small one burner alcohol/propane).

Then take the hot water and store it in a thermos so you can have something warm when the power is out.

What I would make is some rice or pasta. The rice can take a while but these two are very filling.
My go to would be a can of Blue Runner Gumbo or Creole red beans with rice, chicken, shrimp or sausage.

A cheap single burner propane stove.

As long as you have alcohol (hand sanitizer can work depending up %) you can actually make your own alcohol stove out of a can.

Folks you are on your own...Plan and act accordingly!

I will never claim to have all the answers. Depending upon the subject; I am also aware that I may not have all the questions much less the answers. As a result I am always willing to listen to others and work with them to arrive at the right answers to the applicable questions.
